CopHop returns! 3 international couples. 3 levels. All weekend.
Teachers this year:
- Manu Smith + Nicole Frydman (USA)
Manu has been dancing lindy hop since December of 1997. Since then his love for the music and the dance has grown. The list of instructors he has studied under is too long to write here, but two of his greatest influences are Janice Wilson and Frankie Manning. Janice was his first teacher and Frankie … well … everyone knows Frankie.
Since 2000 he has been dancing lindy, performing lindy, competing with lindy, teaching lindy, DJing lindy music and MCing various lindy events. Dig it.
He was born in New York but he currently teaches in San Francisco, CA at the 9:20 Special Thursday night dance. Manu has been teaching at numerous occasions all over the USA and in Sweden, France, Singapore, Australia, Norway, Switzerland and Germany. And now in Denmark, too!
Nicole has been singing and dancing since she was a small child. Shehas performed all over the country in national tours, regionaltheaters, summer stock, repertory, and even some major motionpictures. For example, you can catch her head fly by Julia Roberts inthe dance scene of "Mona Lisa Smile".
In 1997 she discovered swing dancing to go along with the jazz shealready loved so much. Since then she has become a professional dancerplacing in over 40 local, regional, and national swing dancecompetitions. She previously taught swing at Dance Manhattan Studiosin New York but is now a teacher and the Education Coordinator at 920Special in San Francisco. She considers her emphasis and style inteaching and dancing to be about connection with her partner and themusic - all else is secondary.
She has also spent time and energy behind the scenes creating events, shows, workshops, galas, concerts, dances, etc., and continues thatwork today with the San Francisco Jazz Festival. Some of her pastfavorites include Frankie Manning's 88th Birthday weekend, the HarlemJazz Dance Festival 2001-2003, and co-founding Jelly Roll Productions.
- Geraldine & Fabrice (F)
Vice-World Champions in 2004, Fabrice and Géraldine from Toulouse, France, are also excellent teachers. Therefore, they are the star couple of many international dance festivals.
You will enjoy their incredible dynamism, which they know better than anyone to mix with ever so smooth variations.
We are very happy to welcome this very charming French couple to Denmark for the first time - you are going to love them!
- Åsa & Daniel (S)
Åsa & Daniel are members of the world famous dance troupe Harlem Hot Shots and are among the top Lindy hop couples in the world today. It is a great pleasure for us to have some of the best (show) dancers / teachers in the world to teach in Copenhagen!
Åsa Palm:
Before the joining The Rhytm Hot Shots in 1997, Åsa Palm was an enthusiast of Afro-Cuban dance. She bring tremendous movement from this style to her lindy hop and solo jazz dance. Through her near – decade long envolvement with the most famous swing performance troupe in the world, Åsa has not only an authentic style of jazz movement but also an adept, clear and attentive teaching approach that is appreciate worldwide. She is rightly celebrated for her preformance dancing, but it is in her social dancing, when she can simply enjoy the music, her partner and what they can do together, that she is truly mesmerizing.
Daniel Heedman:
A member of Harlem Hot Shots, partnered up with Åsa in 2004. Has travelled all over world teaching and performing. Additional to this he is one of the organizers of the world faoumous Herräng Dance Camp. As a dancer of tap, jazz, charleston and lindy hop, Daniel’s presicion and subtlety is exquisite, and every bit as inspiring as the energy and raw, unharnessed joy that shines through in his performance and social dancing.
